This was meant to be the future for Omega, their dice hit the table in the late ’70s and early ’80s as they introduced some cutting edge digital watches but unfortunately, if you gamble, sometimes you’re going to lose. Digital watches were being produced in their millions and at far lower costs in Asia and ultimately this was one of many body blows that lead to Omega needing to be bailed out and ultimately purchased by the Swatch Group. Omega, seeing the error in their gamble has since stayed out of manufacturing digital watches with some rare exceptions.
